Postcard - Cherry Blossom

Cherry Blossom is a uniquely Canadian candy, first made in Québec in the 1890s by the Lowney company. It was never widely exported, making it a distinctly Canadian treat. Inside its bright yellow box is a whole maraschino cherry in syrup, encased in chocolate, coconut, and roasted peanuts. Its gooey-meets-crunchy texture divides opinion, but that’s part of its charm. Made with invertase, which slowly liquefies the filling over time, the Cherry Blossom reflects an old-fashioned way of making candy.
