Mackintosh’s Toffee was created in England by John and Violet Mackintosh in 1890 as a hard and sticky blend of caramel and butterscotch. Packaged in a distinctive red tartan box, it's famous for the "smack the Mack" ritual: take the bar, smack it hard against a table, and it shatters into small pieces. Die-hard fans know the toffee must be savoured slowly; impatient chewers often pay with a lost filling or worse, a tooth.
