From Day 21 of my Drawn To Canada series.
The Canadian Rockies occupy a prominent place in Canada’s history and identity. The promise of a railway through the mountains helped bring British Columbia into Confederation in 1871 and connected the country from coast to coast. The creation of Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, and Yoho National Parks further established the Rockies as symbols of Canada’s natural heritage. Long before Confederation, the railway, or national parks, these mountains were, and remain, the ancestral homes of many First Nations.
